Inspiration for the Mayflower Ship Pop-Up Card:
The journey that Pilgrims had to make to find their new home across the Atlantic inspired the design of the Mayflower Ship Thanksgiving card.
The ship itself, based on drawings of a replica designed by naval architect William Baher from Hingham, MA in the 1950s, is not only a testament to the strength of human determination in the face of persecution, but also a symbol of religious freedom.
The card features the Mayflower ship arriving in now Plymouth Bay carrying pilgrims aboard, with Plymouth Rock, featured on its current location marked with the Pilgrim’s landing year of 1620.
While the feel of the card is reminiscent of old school and historical maps, with tones of browns and copper, the message it conveys is still modern and inspiring to whoever buys or gives it to someone.
The Mayflower II is being restored to preserve this impressive structure, and the Plimoth Plantation is hosting a Kickstarter campaign this November to raise funds for its restoration.
I designed this card to support this worthwhile endeavor but also for those who love ships, appreciate American History, and the ideals that are associated with the early settlers of the United States.
